RSVP to learn how this tragic 1903 event impacted architecture and construction standards across the United States and the World.

On Wednesday, December 30, 1903, a death-dealing blast of flame raced through the packed auditorium of the Iroquois theater in Chicago, causing the loss of over 600 lives and many injuries. It was a “standing room only” holiday matinee crowd, composed mostly of women, children, and teachers. When the smoke cleared, the Iroquois Theatre fire was the deadliest theatre fire and the deadliest single-building fire in United States history until 9/11. Learn more details about this tragedy, hear the stories of some of the victims, survivors, and responders, and hear the impact on public safety.
For this Chicago Tour Guide Professionals Association (CTPA) virtual program, we welcome the Executive Director of the Iroquois Theater Historical Society, Caron Primas Brennan. Caron loves history, biography, puzzles, and a good mystery! She belongs to several Chicago area and regional genealogy groups. She is a member of the Genealogical Speakers Guild and a Professional Member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, and a former Registrar of the National Society Daughters of the Revolution (DAR). Caron has been teaching at the Newberry Library in Chicago and speaking at local libraries and genealogical societies for over fifteen years with consistently excellent feedback.
This virtual meeting hosted by the CTPA is also open to all NFTGA member organizations, and if you are an officer for your local tour guide association, please forward the registration email invitation to all of your members. If you get an email about login information for the CTPA website, you can ignore it (unfortunately there is no way to disable these automatically generated messages).
If you are unable to attend the live-stream, the recording will be available to watch for the following 30 days. If you have any feedback, including changing the contact information for future NFTGA Education Programs, please email Mike McMains (mike@tourswithmike.com) from the Chicago Tour Guide Professionals Association.
